Camping

Camping in AZ. Guest post by P. Pete and I went camping for the first time in AZ. Pete has been camping since he was 5 weeks old so this isn't anything new but it was the first time tent camping and the first time it was just the two of us. He did just great and he was so excited. The entire drive out he pointed to the mountains and said "we going there?" Well here it is:This is the view from our campsite to the White tank mountains.
We hiked the waterfall trail within the park boundaries. Around 500 AD the Hohokam indians settled in this area where the desert and mountains join. Apparently they had an extensive canal system that brought water to their crops. Their main crop was corn. They drew on the rocks these "petroglyths" or symbols which we are unsure of the meanings. When they carved into these rocks it would contrast against the stone. The clearer the marking the older the markings.

The view on the waterfall trail.

Pete found this massive boulder just right for climbing and quickly he scurried to the top and out of my reach. I asked him to come back down and he came back down the rock after I took this picture.
Notice how the granite rocks are "white". This is how the mountains got their name when the rain runoff rushes over them it changed the color to white. At the base of the mountain is a cold pond filled with water, no waterfall trickling down today.
Pete eating his hotdog cooked over the fire.
Pete would throw wood into the fire and say "fireflies". He would call the sparks fireflies. It was a great time for both of us and so memorable.
