Bumpo

I tried out Pete's Bumpo chair for the first time today. He liked it....for about 5 minutes. The thing is pretty incredible. I told P. that I was going to try it today and he said he thought it was too early. It sat Pete upright with no problems and Pete's head was actually really stable. He was so cute sitting there looking around figuring out this new sitting sensation. We looked at some toys and took some pictures before he was ready to get down and move. He is a mover. I can see I am going to have my hands full once he starts crawling. He just wants to go. His legs and arms are always moving and he is always trying to get out of his bouncer, Boppy or anything he is strapped into that restricts full movement. I hope he will enjoy the Bumpo at some point. I think it is pretty neat and could be a lot of fun for us. Here are some pictures. And here is Pete happier on the floor......
Oh, and my week long efforts of trying to get Pete to nap have worked. Well, I guess I better not get ahead of myself because yesterday I was in tears because I felt nothing was working. My friend Rachel gave Pete this Pooh thing that you hang in the crib and it plays music and shines pictures on the ceiling. I tried it for the first time this morning and it worked! It ran for 15 minutes and at the end of the first round I could see he was getting sleep, heavy eyes, rubbing his head, etc. It automatically shut off and it startled Pete. He was like, uh, what happened? So I quickly turned it back on and he went back to watching the lights and listening to the music. His eyes got heavy, he started whimpering a little then rolled over onto his tummy and fell asleep all before the second round finished. It was a very exciting thing to watch for a tired, discouraged mom who thought it would never happen. But it did. He put himself to sleep. No rocking, walking, singing. No putting him down and him waking up half way to the mattress. No tip-toeing away and hoping the wood floors wouldn't creak and wake him up. It was amazing. And now, 40 minutes later he is still asleep. What a wonderful day. What a wonderful turn of events. This will change my life. Totally. I will keep you updated. Off to try to get something done. I was so excited about the new milestone that I had to blog about it and call my husband, best friend and Rachel since it was her gift that made this all possible. Oh, Pete is waking up.......

Camping

We went camping again this weekend. Usually we go to the lake but this time we went north to Cadillac, MI. It is about half way between us and my in-laws so it worked out great for both parties. We stayed at a nice campground with a pool, petting zoo, fishing, nice grass and trees and close enough to town for us to check out the local Goodwill and arcade when it was raining Sat. P. caught a nice 18" Pike in the small fishing pond they had there. It was exciting for everyone to see that thing bite. See picture.

It rained again. I think it rains about 3-4 days a week. It wasn't a huge deal but it still puts a damper on things. And it brings out the mosquitoes, more than they already are. But we still had another great weekend. My in-laws cook wonderful meals while camping. I don't have to do a thing, it is really nice. I am not just talking hot dogs and hamburgers but Flat Iron steak, spareribs, pot roast and potatoes, pork roast. We eat well. Thanks again Omi and Opa for taking us camping and feeding us so well. Here are my pictures from the weekend. Katie is up at Omi and Opa's this week. There are lots of great things for her to do up there like driving the golf cart, spending the day at her uncle's lake, fishing, riding on the pontoon boat, etc. I think they are going to a water park up north this week too. I will work on getting Pete to nap longer than a half hour. I have some new ideas including blacking out his windows in his room, putting him down after only an hour of being awake and using a fan for background noise. We will see what happens. Pray for me. Wish me luck. Have a great week.
